Checklist Before Transfer

  • The domain will not be expiring anytime soon (at least 7 days remaining).
  • Make sure that you have the authorization code (EPP Code) to transfer the domain.
  • Make sure admin's contact information (email address) is valid and accessible.
  • For at least 60 days, the domain has been registered elsewhere.
  • The domain's transfer protection (Registrar Lock) has been deactivated.

Is my domain eligible for transfer?

Get more information about the transfer process and prepare the needed info such as domain transfer code. We strongly recommend you avoid domain transfer within the first 45 days of renewing your domain with another provider after expiration (as the renewed year might not be eligible for the new registrar shift).

Will I lose the remaining time I have with my current registrar?

For Generic TLDs (such as .com, .info, .club, etc.), the remaining time that you have with your current registrar will not be lost, it gets carried over. Plus, your domain will be renewed for one year as part of the transfer. If you renew your domain name after the domain has expired, you will need to wait 45 days after the expiration date before you can transfer. Otherwise, you may lose the renewal year that you paid for with the previous registrar.

How long does a domain transfer take?

A domain transfer usually takes around 1-7 days to complete the transfer process. It depends on the domain owner being able to unlock the domain with the correct authorization code provided by their current registrar.

Can I transfer my domain for more than 1 year?

When you transfer your domain, the remaining time you had left with your old registrar is automatically included. The 1 year you register for with Xantec is added on top. Extra renewals can be done after you have transferred.

Can I change my WHOIS information or nameservers during the transfer?

No, you are not able to change them during the transfer process itself. However, you can easily change your WHOIS information and update your nameservers right after the transfer is fully completed.

What about downtime and nameservers?

If you are hosting the DNS for the domain on your own or with a web hosting company, your DNS or domain nameservers will be transferred over. There shouldn’t be any downtime for the domain.
