What is LHDN e-Invoicing?

In Malaysia, e-Invoicing is the structured digital representation of a transaction between a supplier and a buyer. Unlike a traditional PDF or paper invoice, an e-Invoice is a data-rich file (typically in XML or JSON format) that is automatically transmitted, received, and validated via the LHDN MyInvois Portal.

This transformation is mandatory for all businesses under the Finance Act 2023. It replaces the old, error-prone manual entry methods with a secure, real-time communication contract between your business systems and the tax authority. The final mandate for all other taxpayers, including SMEs and individual businesses. Every transaction must be validated via the LHDN SDK/Portal.

January 1, 2026 (The threshold exemption)

LHDN has officially set a RM1 Million Revenue Threshold. Businesses with annual revenue below this amount are now exempt from mandatory e-invoicing compliance.

Active rule: consolidation cap

Taxpayers are allowed to consolidate receipts (B2C) into monthly e-Invoices. However, any single transaction exceeding RM10,000 is strictly excluded from consolidation and requires a direct, individual e-Invoice issuance.
